A guide to successful grief work
Do not
avoid expression of feeling…any feelings.
Do not push emotions…allow grief work to progress on it’s own time schedule.
Listen, share grief work with someone you can relax with and trust.
Do not judge or place value on emotions; rather, try to understand the reason
for these feelings.
Begin to find new patterns of rewarding social interactions.
Try to get involved with activities that are not closely identifiable with the
loss.
Begin to prepare for a positive future with the help of friends, family or a counsellor.
REMEMBER: people who are grieving can discover healing and hope for the future as they recognize their lives in a positive way. Because grief can be so painful and seem so overwhelming, it frightens us. Many people wonder if they are grieving in the ‘right’ way, and they worry if the feelings they have are normal.
